The Huntington Library & Gardens

Enjoy an exclusive guided tour of the famed Rose Garden at The Huntington Library where more than 1,300 different rose varieties and 2,500 rose plants reside.  We are honored to be hosted by Tom Carruth, our dear friend and strong HRS supporter, who is the Rose Garden Curator and former Chief Hybridizer of Weeks Roses, along with his docent-team.  Tom will share insights into the development of the Rose Garden and its importance to The Huntington—an experience rarely available to the public.  During our visit, we will also be visiting the stunning Garden of Flowering Fragrance – Chinese Garden, an example of a classical Chinese garden with intricate stonework, wood carvings, and structures shipped from China.

Otto & Sons Nursery & Rose Gardens

A favorite destination for local rose enthusiasts, Otto & Sons offers three distinctly different yet equally inspiring rose gardens on its premises.  End your visit browsing the retail shop—truly a gardener’s candy store.

Pageant of Roses Garden

Our dear friend and Honorary HRS Lifetime Member, Dr. Tommy Cairns who is the current Rose Garden Curator, will present an exclusive special talk on the Pageant of Roses Garden at Rose Hills Memorial Park and its role in hosting one of the World Federation of Rose Societies’ annual rose trials.  The Pageant of Roses Garden was awarded the prestigious Award of Garden Excellence by the World Federation of Rose Societies in 2006.  Witness the dramatic impact of mass-planted roses and roses in peak display.  The garden features 400 different rose varieties and over 9,000 rose plants.

Rose Garden at Exposition Park

An afternoon stroll through the historic Exposition Park Rose Garden completes our day.  Wander among lengthy beds of roses in full bloom, enjoy their fragrance, and capture countless photo-worthy moments.  Nearby exploration options include the Natural History Museum and the California Science Center for a peek at the future developing home of the Space Shuttle Endeavor.

Pacific Rose Society Annual Spring Rose Show

One of the highlights of our tour will be an exclusive behind-the-scenes guided experience at the Pacific Rose Society’s Spring Annual Rose Show, one of California’s largest and most anticipated rose exhibitions of the year.

Dr. Tommy Cairns and a team of Master Rosarians will walk us through the preparation, staging, and judging process. This is a rare opportunity to see exhibition-quality roses up close and gain valuable rose-care tips directly from the experts.

The Getty Center - Museum & Gardens

While not a rose garden, The Getty Center is a must-see attraction.  Members will enjoy an exclusive guided tour, offering insight into its world-class art, architecture, and beautifully designed exterior landscapes—an experience not typically available to the general public.
